History of LNG


1915    Godfrey Cabot registers a patent in the US for transporting liquid gas by river barge.

1959     First cargo of LNG is shipped to the UK from the US on the Methane Pioneer.  The vessel was originally built in 1945 to be used as a cargo ship in the Second World War.  The Methane Pioneer had a deadweight of slightly under 5,000 tonnes.

2006     First LNG shipment to Hainan, China on a Q-Max

2014       Royal Dutch Shell recognizes 50th anniversary of the first commercial shipment from Algeria to the UK.
